Background: To review the existing scientific evidence between vitamin D and atopic dermatitis  and present what is most recent.

Methods: Search using the database, scielo, pubmed, fascicles of brazilian annals of dermatology and publications of the American Academy of Dermatology library, using the key words: atopic dermatitis, Vitamin D, in portuquese and english. The articles select were those that related clinical and therapeutic interactions between Vitamin D and atopic dermatitis.

Results: Experimental and epidemiological evidence has demonstrated that introduction of the Vitamin D or sun exposure reduces the susceptibility to infections to decrease the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and regulates the immune response and local inflammatory be a future treatment option.

Conclusions: Scientific evidence shows that in patients with atopic dermatitis assessing the level of Vitamin D in the body can be detected and recommended its decrease may indicate supplementation as it is feasible, safe and has effects of clinical improvement.
